Now We Need To Be Strategic Planners Not Impotent Reactors

This is an update to my recent post. First, I want to urge Black voters, especially Gen X and Gen Z voters, to understand that it’s not the Democratic Party that is pushing for President Biden to leave the race. It is important to make this distinction because we can use this moment strategically. If we become reactionary in this moment, we doom ourselves to a wasteland of ‘Jim Crow-like existence’ for the next 100 years, if not longer.

This is not the time to get mad and say “We Black folks will just sit at home and not vote. We’ll be just fine with the outcome.” The folly of that kind of thinking is what has gotten us to this day. After 8 years of the Clinton Administration, Black voter turnout wasn’t as strong as it should have been, and Al Gore failed to secure an outright the majority of the ‘Electoral College’ votes. The Supreme Court then handed the Presidency to George W. Bush and Dick Cheney.

In 2004, the level of turnout among minority voters didn’t step up, and Bush/Cheney won again, defeating Democrat John Kerry. The 2008 elections were encouraging, there was a marked increase in the number of minorities voting, and Barack Obama was elected president. In 2010, a very fundamental concept of civics and voter engagement was ignored. Democrats, including minorities, ignored turning out for the 2010 midterm elections in a census year. Conservative Republicans and Libertarians turned out and won control of both houses of Congress along with complete control of the Governorships and Legislatures in a number of southern and midwestern states.

These elections denied Obama a supportive Congress that would have allowed him to move a highly transformative policy agenda forward. However, the damage was done. The State level Republicans used the census results to gerrymander their Congressional maps to diminish the strength of Black and Democratic voters. They used their state level majorities to implement voting laws intended to suppress the number of minority voters and likely Democratic voters in their states.

The failure to give Obama a supportive Senate after his 2014 reelection, allowed the Republican controlled Senate to deny him a SCOTUS nomination. Republicans then controlled the Senate during all four years of the Trump Presidency, which allowed Mitch McConnell to pack the Federal Judiciary with Federalist Society Judges recommended by the Heritage Foundation, the same people who have authored the ‘Project 2025’ plan and manifesto.

Now that I have provided a general context, I will get to the point. Many times, some in the Democratic party have made unconscionably selfish and poor decisions. The party is a broad tent comprised of different constituencies. They don’t always do what is best for the party.

In 1968, VP Hubert Humphrey jumped into the presidential race after LBJ dropped out. Humphrey represented the pro-war faction of the party they led to a contentious floor fight and anti-war riots in the streets outside of the convention. Richard Nixon won the election.

In 1972 George McGovern didn’t fully vet his VP choice. It came out that Tom Eagleton had suffered from depression and had been treated with electric shock therapy. He stepped down from the nomination. McGovern then announced that he would seek a tax hike. Nixon won a second term by a landslide.

In 1980 Senator Ted Kennedy challenged Incumbent President Jimmy Carter for the Democratic nomination. The contest was close and got real personal. After the primaries, Kennedy refused to concede the nomination until  late into the Democratic convention, where he upstaged the President, who went on to lose to Ronald Reagan.

Given this history, some Democratic donors and elites want Joe Biden to drop out of the race. At a point where the Biden/Harris team had won the requisite number of delegate to secure the nomination. These people behind the scenes are pushing the narrative that Biden should drop out, but also, so should Harris. At the very least, some Democrats suggest they should have a brokered convention to decide who can best defeat Trump. At least, that is the narrative. The reality is that many white men in the party are afraid that if Biden wins, he could resign, and VP Harris would become president. They fear she would then have the benefit of incumbency going into the 2028 election cycle.

This is why you hear the question, “Can Biden beat Trump and is he healthy enough to remain in office a full term?” We need to understand that the Biden/Harris campaign has about $300 million it’s raised from mostly small donors to use going into the final stretch. They have already bought up most of the available TV ad space in the battleground states. It’s going to be hard, given current campaign financing laws to transfer that money to any other candidate but Harris. Besides, millions of small money donors gave money expecting Harris to be on the ticket.

History has shown that the proposed late changes don’t work. If Biden drops out and someone other than Harris is the nominee, the Democrats will lose the White House and the Senate. That is important because of the new SCOTUS ruling on presidential immunity. A GOP Senate will confirm more MAGA minded judges. Thomas, Alito, and Roberts will retire, and Trump will name people in there 40’s to replace them. That would mean these SCOTUS appointments would infect the next 75 years with their rulings. Those rulings would invariably they would seeks to lock in the tenets of ‘Project 2025’.

Understand, these White Democratic males, donors and elites are willing to condemn us all to a White Nationalist Theocratic Dictatorship. You may say Trump is not a theocrat. You are correct, but his VP choice is. He is a Putin supporting theocrat who wants a nationwide abortion ban with no exceptions. He believes divorce and contraception should also be outlawed.

When you hear reports that the poll numbers are getting worse for Biden, you should consider the source. All of the major news outlets do polling have CEOs and management that supports Trump. Even MSNBC, which has commentators that seem Progressive, is owned by Comcast. They own the NBC network. Why do you think that NBC interview Lester Holt did with President Biden was so contentious? Holt asked the same questions 6 different ways. Biden finally asked why aren’t you focusing on the 28 lies my opponent told during the debate or that he was allowed to not answer questions?

All of the major news outlets keep reporting that they are waiting for Biden to decide if he will drop out of the race. They refuse to report that he has already stated that he won the primaries and the delegates. He is in the race to win.

Democrats calling for Biden to drop out, without voicing support of VP Harris, risk losing down ballot. It’s foolish to engage in this play. 1,400 Black women who are political influencers at driving voter turn out have written a letter supporting Joe Biden. There are very few polls that have 1400 people in their sample size. None accurately reflects the views of Black women. We are talking about the most consistent voting block within the Democratic coalition.

The letter is telling Biden to stay in the race and cautioning the Democratic party not to throw VP Harris under the bus. In other words, all the milk toast Democrats calling for Biden to step aside, you will also lose. Trump will win and ‘Project 2025’ will nullify the oversight powers of Congress and the Senate. The only way to prevent implementation of this plan is for Democrats to win everything and pass laws to codify guardrails to work against the intentions of the Heritage Foundation, to make ‘Trumpism’ the foundation of governing policy.

The plan will also get rid of Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, the ACA, climate and pollution polices and more. More than ever, we, the American electorate, have to be critical in our analysis of information sources and strategic in our engagement. This is no time to be listening to reported rumors from unnamed sources. The Russians, Chinese, and Iranians are posting disinformation on social media. The main news networks are also spreading disinformation on their platforms. The media is not an honest broker. The illusion that they were ever, anything but purveyors, of propaganda is now broken.

I have provided links to some videos that might be helpful as counter narratives to what you may be hearing from the corporate owned media.
